[A caption reads: “LEXUS SAFETY SYSTEM+”]
[A caption reads: “An integrated safety package that combines a camera and radar, advancing the evolution of active safety.”]
[Animation demonstrates the Pedestrian Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High beam and Lane Departure Alert.]
The Lexus Safety System Plus+, is a state-of-the-art safety package designed to help prevent collisions in a wide range of vehicle speeds.
The system includes Pedestrian Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High beam and Lane Departure Alert.
Some Lexus models feature a Lane Departure Alert system – or LDA.
It alerts the driver, both audibly and visibly, if the vehicle deviates from its lane when driving on a road with distinct lane markings.
[A camera mounted inside the windshield is highlighted.]
A camera, mounted inside the windshield ahead of the interior rearview mirror, acts as a sensor that recognizes lane markers on the roadway.
[The LDA switch is highlighted.]
In some models, the system is activated by pressing the LDA switch, and turned off by pushing it again.
Depending on the model, it remains in whatever position it is set, either on or off, even if the vehicle is shut off and restarted again.
[The LDA indicator in the instrument cluster is highlighted.]
[A caption reads: “Alternate LDA indicator:”
When the system is first turned on, the LDA indicator in the instrument cluster also comes on, showing lane lines.
When the camera system recognizes lane markings on the road the corresponding lane lines in the indicator will highlight or change colour.
If lane markers can be recognized on only one side of the vehicle, the system will display or flash the indicator and function only on that side.
[Animation shows a vehicle deviating from its lane. An alert sounds and flashes.]
If the system determines that the vehicle may deviate from its marked lane – and the turn signal is not activated which would indicate intent to change lanes – it alerts the driver by beeping and flashing the corresponding lane line in the indicator.
The inside of the indicator lane lines will turn black or thin if no lane markings are recognized or if the LDA function is temporarily unavailable.
[A caption reads: “Operating conditions include:
-Traveling at speeds of approximately 50 km/h or more (model dependant)
-Driving on a wide, clear lane

The LDA system can be temporarily canceled if:
The vehicle speed is outside the prescribed range;
Lane lines can’t be recognized on the road;
The turn signal is activated;
Or, if a lane departure warning has just been triggered, in which case it will take several seconds for the system to reset;
Operation of the system could also be delayed after the vehicle has been parked in the sun and the interior has become very hot.
[The instrument cluster is highlighted.]
In all cases, normal function will resume after the necessary operating
conditions have returned and the system is still turned on.
[Animation shows snow falling on a highway.]
[A caption reads: “The LDA may not operate correctly if:
-Driving on a sharp curve
-Lane markers extremely narrow or extremely wide
-Lane markers obscured or partially obscured (e.g. by sand,
dirt, water, snow or ice)”]
Under some conditions, the camera sensor may be unable to recognize lane markers and the lane departure warning function may not operate correctly. Those conditions include:
When driving on a sharp curve;
When lane markers are extremely narrow or extremely wide;
When lane markers are obscured or partially obscured, for example by, sand, dirt, water, snow or ice
Keep in mind, these occurrences do not indicate a malfunction.
[A Lexus drives along the road.]
As part of the LDA system, some models feature a Lane-Keeping Assist system, which applies a small amount of steering force using the Electric Power Steering to assist the driver’s steering input and activates the lane departure warning when needed.
[The windshield is highlighted.]
[A caption reads: “Precaution:If the windshield should require replacement, replace it only with a genuine Lexus windshield to ensure correct operation of the LDA system.”]
In the event the windshield requires replacement, it should be replaced only with a genuine Lexus windshield to ensure correct operation of the LDA system.

It can happen to anyone -- a momentary lapse in concentration that sees your vehicle begin to drift into another lane.
